the basic necessities to play cricket matches successfully. Being loyal to your
teammates means trying to understand their intentions and expectations. You
should always follow what they say and do. If you don‘t do that then you can
never become a great cricketer.
Pick best players
Selecting team
members who have the qualities of a good cricketer would ensure the success of
the group. If you choose players who have skills of batting, bowling, fielding
and even wicket taking, then you will surely get a winning result. One of the
most effective way to select players is to ask them to perform some cricket
related exercises. These exercises should not involve any physical pain since
they may cause injuries. Instead focus on their coordination, agility, hand-eye
co-ordination, speed and accuracy. By doing these activities, the players will
develop a strong connection between their brain and body.
Keep them hungry
Cricket players
generally lose interest after they eat breakfast. So, make sure that you keep
them hungry by providing nutritious meals. Make sure that you serve food at the
right time since hunger is the biggest factor that influences players’
performance. You could provide them food before practice session or game. In
addition, you could offer them snacks and drinks throughout the day.
Motivate Players
Motivation is what
keeps players engaged in their games. Therefore, motivate them to play well by
rewarding them when they do well. Giving incentives is the best way to motivate
players. You could give them money, gifts, coupons, vouchers, etc.
Know their weaknesses
It is important to
know the weaknesses of players, especially those who are new to cricket. Since
they lack experience, you need to provide training sessions to improve their
skills. A good coach will guide them correctly. Once you know their weaknesses,
you can help them overcome them.
Teach them how to bat
Teaching them how to
bat is very useful if you want to increase your chances of winning. Most
players are unaware of batting techniques. When teaching them batting, pay
attention to their stance, grip, footwork, swing, follow through, timing,
hitting stride, etc.
Take care of their diet
Players need to
consume adequate amounts of vitamins and water. You should make sure that they
drink plenty of fluids while playing. Also, they should consume foods that
provide necessary nutrients and calories. Foods that are rich in iron, zinc,
vitamin C, vitamin B, protein, and fats should be provided.
Fielding and Bowling
It's a fact that
cricket is played on field where a team batsman runs towards the bowler who
bowls and tries to hit the ball over the boundary line (cricket). A successful
run means that the batter scores and wins the game. If the ball hits the stumps
or any object on the ground before reaching the boundary line then the batsmen
loses. Hence the fielding becomes most important.
Bowling is the name
given to the art of bowling the ball toward the striker. There are three types
of bowlers in cricket; spin, seam, and googly. Spin bowlers aim to make the
ball curve (spoon) so that it spins off the pitch after hitting the wicket
(stump). Seam bowlers aim to have the ball cut along the direction of travel
(leg break). Googly bowlers aim to make a ball that moves unpredictably
(doosra, flipper), often referred to as the leg-cutter. To keep the ball low,
spinners need high speed whereas seam bowlers require lower speeds to get results.
Batting and Selecting the Right Team
Batting is the action
of hitting the ball back at the opposing bowlers using bat. The batting order
in cricket is based on the number of runs a player gets. Usually a batsman will
face different bowlers throughout the innings. Depending upon the type of
bowling, each batters may do well against certain types of bowling.
The first thing that
should be done before selecting a team is to make sure that they have enough
players. If the number of players is low then there is no scope for any
improvement in their performance. A good way to select the best team would be
to use a proper strategy. Make sure that you do not choose players who lack skills
and know how to play cricket.
Practice, Practice and Practice
Before the match,
practice sessions must be held regularly. Players should try out different
shots and techniques to improve their game. Also, they should train with the
same team members to get used to them. They should also train with various
fielding positions to improve their field placement.
Field set-up
It is always
advisable to keep the pitch in the right position. There should be a fence at
both ends of the wicket. The umpire and bowler's crease should be in front of
the batsman and close to the stumps. At the moment of ball delivery, the bails
should be placed at the back foot of the batter. In case of a wide, the
fielders should stand behind the line to stop the ball. As soon as the fielder
catches the ball, he should move towards the striker's end to avoid the
run-out.
Batting order
Players need to bat
according to their batting style. For example, if the player likes attacking
batting, he should be given the chance to score off the top. On the other hand,
if the player prefers playing defensive batting, he should be put in the
middle. When choosing the batting order, it is necessary to consider the type
of bowling attack. If the team faces fast bowlers, the players should bat
according to their speed. If the team is facing spinners, the highest scorers
should bat last.
Bowling order
For bowling attacks,
the order should be decided accordingly. First, the slower bowlers should be
chosen, followed by the medium pace bowlers. Finally, the faster bowlers should
be put in place. The bowler should aim to hit the wicket while rotating his arm.
To increase the chances of scoring runs, the bowler should aim to draw the
batsman forward.
Number of overs
A match should
consist of thirty overs. Each over consists of three balls. During the first
five overs, two bowlers should deliver the ball. However, only one bowler
should take the strike for the rest of the innings. Once the fifth over is
completed, the remaining twenty bowls should be delivered. Therefore, the total
time taken to complete the match is forty minutes. The players should be allowed
ten minutes between each over to change their pads and helmets.
Keep the opponent away from bat
The batsman should
keep away from the bowler's arm, if possible, so that he cannot have any
advantage by using his arm. If this is not possible then the batsman may use
his body to block the ball. Keeping the batsman away from the bowling will help
him to stay focused on the game.
Make sure the batsmen knows where the ball is going to hit
The batsman should
know about the position of the bowler, and what type of balls they bowl at the
batsman, which would help him to know how to defend himself against these kinds
of balls. He should also know where the bowlers' fingers are moving, and try to
predict their movement.
Try to catch the bowlers out
If the batsman sees
that the ball is coming towards him in a particular direction, he should step
forward and take the catch. By doing this he will get a good grip and prevent
the ball from hitting the ground before sliding past him.
