Goal keeper is responsible for making sure the puck does not go out of the goal area or behind the goal line. If he fails, then the defender takes over. The player who loses possession of the ball should try to get back into position and play again. The goalie's job is to stop the opposing team from scoring. In hockey, the objective is to score goals (win). A goalie cannot just let his opponent score without trying hard to save the game. He is called the goalkeeper because he stands between the net and the puck.
Defender is
responsible for protecting their own goaltender and keeping them safe from the
opposing teams' attackers. When attacking the opponents goaltender, defenders
always try to block the shot with their stick; they do not want the referee to
call a penalty. Defenders attempt to make contact with the attacker as soon as
possible before he shoots the puck. Sometimes, however, the puck hits them and
may accidentally pass into the net. After stopping the puck, the defender tries
to keep the puck out of the net.
If the goalie lets
the ball go into the net, the puck is awarded to the attacker. However, if the
defender prevents the puck from going into the net, it is still considered a
good defensive effort, even if the puck bounces off his stick and goes into the
net. Therefore, the defender is considered to have scored a goal.
Who is Goalkeeper?
Goalkeeper is the position that defends the net (goal).
He/she covers the goal and prevents the opposing team from scoring goals. When
the goalkeeper makes a save he/she receives possession of the ball. A goalie
should follow the rules of the game. The rules state that the goalie cannot
touch the puck before it enters the goal and can only use his hands to make the
initial contact with the ball. If the shot is blocked it goes to the defense man
who then passes the puck to another teammate.
Who is Defender?
The defender is the
position that must defend their teammates and prevent them from being scored
upon. Once the defender gets the puck they have a choice of whether or not to
pass it forward or take it back to the goaltender. Defenders need to protect
the puck at all times. After the puck goes into the offensive zone the player
must control the puck until the defensemen return it to the original defending
players. The defender does not have time to do anything but get rid of the
puck. If the puck hits an opposition player the opponent becomes the attacker.
If the puck is taken away by the player then no attack occurs.
Responsibilities and Role of Goal Keeper
The Goal Keeper’s primary responsibility is to prevent goals
from being scored by their team mates. A goalkeeper should try to do everything
possible to stop the opposition scoring. If the ball comes out of play they are
responsible for picking it up and returning it back to where it was before the
infraction. In some cases they might have to throw it back into play if they
know that they cannot retrieve it without risking injury to themselves or
others. When defending an area near their goal, goalkeepers should position
themselves between their own team and the opposition. Their job is to ensure
that their teammates don't get injured while trying to defend the goal.
Defenders play a huge role in hockey. They need to be aware of what is going on
around them at all times. They need to track opposing players and anticipate
their movements. If a player gets a shot off, defenders need to move toward the
attacker, block the path to the goalie or force the attacker to shoot low.
Defenders are also responsible for clearing rebounds, redirecting shots that go
wide of the net, and covering any potential passing lanes.

Some more Tasks of Goalkeeper and Defender
The goalkeeper is responsible for stopping the ball before it
enters the goal area. When he receives the ball, he has to decide whether to
keep it or pass it forward. If he passes the ball forward, he is called the
defender. He should not let any player go past him unless he gets out of his
way.
The goal keeper’s responsibility is to stop the
puck from entering their zone. If this happens, they have to make sure that it
does not go over the line or out of play. To do this, they use sticks and
bodies to block the puck. If it gets past them, they then call for the
defenders to help them out. Defenders: The defender’s job is to protect and
defend the goalie from the puck. In order to do this, they have to cover the
area where the goalie cannot see the puck. If the ball goes behind them, they
pass it back to the goalie if they think he/she might be able to catch it.
Goal keeper should stop scoring opportunities as soon as they arise. In doing so he would reduce the chances of his team's opponents getting goals. Defender would prevent their opponents from scoring and also have to defend their goal from the opposition who may attempt to score. He would also keep track of any fouls committed by both teams. If any player commits a foul, then the referee will send him off the field for 10 minutes and the fouled player may not return until the end of play. After the match is over, the goalkeeper gets a point for the first goal scored and defender gets a point if no goals were scored. If two or more goals are scored, then each winner gets 1/2 point.

where everyone else is on the ice at all times. Goal keepers should always be
aware of their surroundings and always look to improve their skills. If
something is going wrong on the ice, the goalie should notice it right away.
Defenders are responsible for covering the entire ice surface, protecting the
net, and making sure no puck gets past them. To do this defenders need to stay
close to the net and be aware of what’s happening around them. Good defense
will lead to good offense because if defenders cover the ice well, then
forwards will have space to get open and score goals. So the best way to become
a great goalkeeper or defender is to practice hard everyday.
